Watlow Immersion and Circulation Heaters

By Bob and Andy

As a leading manufacturer of industrial thermal equipment, Watlow offers a wide range of immersion and circulation heaters designed to meet diverse heating requirements. These heaters are known for their efficiency, reliability, versatility, and competitive cost.

Watlow Immersion Heaters

Immersion heaters are devices that are fully submerged into the liquids, gases, or other substances they are designed to heat. This direct immersion allows for efficient energy transfer, as the exposed elements are only in direct contact with the heated substance itself.

Watlow offers several types of immersion heaters:

Screw Plug Heaters: These are secured with screw plugs up to 2-1/2” NPT and have either WATROD or FIREBAR heating elements. Ideal for direct immersion heating of liquids.

Flange Heaters: ANSI Flange Sizes ranging from 3″ to 14″ with WATROD heating elements. These are ideal for heating liquids, gases, tanks, and pressure vessels requiring higher kilowatts. Available with or without baffles depending on the application requirements

FIREROD® Immersion Heaters: Up to ¾” in diameter, these compact heaters intended for use in 90+% water-soluble solutions and their simplicity enables versatile heating system design

Immersion Heater Features

Watlow Immersion heaters can be highly customized, with expansive watt-density ranges and element configurations. Base heaters can be selected from the large standard product library and can be customized to meet your requirements. If the standard product offering does not include the heater you’re looking for, Watlow engineers can help find a solution including designing some parts to-order.

Watlow Circulation Heaters

Circulation heaters are designed to heat forced-circulation air, gases or liquids. They are adapted from standard Watlow Immersion heater assemblies which are mated with a pressure vessel (tank). These assemblies direct fluids past FIREBAR or WATROD heating elements in a controlled vessel to deliver fast response and even heat distribution. They can be adapted for use in either in-line or side-arm operations. Circulation heaters are available standard in 1” – 2-1/2” NPT Screw Plug or 3” to 14” ANSI Flange sizes, and can be customized just as the standalone Immersion heaters.

Watlow also offers the FLUENT line of heaters for applications requiring high watt-density in a small package. These compact heaters are fit in-line with a fluid flow and can achieve excellent heating with a very fast response-time due to their unique construction.

Conclusion

Watlow’s extensive lineup of immersion and circulation heaters offers an efficient, reliable, and affordable solution for any of your industrial fluid heating needs. Whether you need to heat liquids, gases, or other substances, Watlow has a heater that can get the job done effectively. Most heaters are manufactured to-order with minimal lead times here in America – Reach out to one of our engineers today to discuss your application!

Did you know that there are Penguins in AFRICA?

By Bree DeLuca

I didn’t know this until I visited Mystic Aquarium many years ago. Back in 2014, I even had the privilege of getting to be part of an encounter with the Mystic Aquarium African penguins. As you may have gathered by now, penguins are my favorite animals and I love learning about them, so this experience was magical. I was able to pet the penguin when he came up close to me in the room. At one point he even looked like he was going to jump onto my lap! It is still one of the most memorable days I have had.

It was that day that brought me to learning even more about penguins and participating in the Mystic Aquarium Run/Walk for the Penguins that they hold every fall. Until Covid hit, I would gather a group of people to come with me to participate in the fundraiser that benefits the rehabilitation of African penguins.

Mystic Aquarium partners with an organization called SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds). One of the many things I learned at the first  Run/Walk I attended is that their penguin handlers actually get to go to South Africa to work with this organization to help the conservation efforts since African Penguins are critically endangered.

SANCCOB is a leader in the African Penguin Conservation efforts by rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-releasing penguins that have been injured, abandoned and/or sick, or affected by oil spills. One of my favorite ways that I have been able to be part of the conservation efforts has been participating in their “adopt” a penguin initiative! You “adopt” a penguin that either is or was in their care. You get to name them and then they send you information on that bird!

We are very happy for our friends at the Hebron Food Pantry as they have received financial gifts to start the process of buying a larger space for their work of feeding the people of the Attleboro area.

As we have been involved with the pantry, we have seen the need for assistance increase significantly since COVID. They now serve around 1,575 people a week. Around 800 adults, 500 children and 275 senior citizens come to the pantry to add food to their homes so they can use their finances to pay the ever-increasing costs of their living expenses.

The pantry’s current quarters are 1000 square feet and they have done an amazing job of using every inch of their space work. When our team has volunteered, we have encountered the challenges they have faced in making their space work! We are so excited for them to have the gift of 3000 square feet in their new quarters.

Now their challenge is to do the work to make the new space safe, accessible to the disabled and create a welcoming environment to feed the people. If you would like to help with these endeavors, you can donate on Hebron Food Pantry’s link.

The Dog Den

By Missy Bouffard

Dogs have fascinated humans with their intelligence, unique behaviors and ability to form deep bonds as cherished companions for years. From their earliest domestication alongside humans thousands of years ago to their modern roles as service animals and beloved pets, dogs continue to impress us with their cognitive abilities and complex social behaviors.

Studies have shown that dogs possess remarkable cognitive skills. They are capable of learning, understanding commands and problem solving. They can respond to a wide range of verbal cues and hand gestures from their owners. Dogs are observant animals and can learn from trial and error, observing the behaviors of other well-trained dogs or when guided by humans. This ability to comprehend human communication reflects not only their adaptability but also their social intelligence. One fascinating aspect of canine intelligence is their problem-solving ability. Dogs can navigate mazes, solve puzzles, and even demonstrate logical thinking to retrieve things hidden from their view. This cognitive flexibility showcases their ability to learn from their environment and adapt their behaviors accordingly. It also does not hurt that treats are usually always involved.

Beyond their cognitive skills, dogs display emotional and social intelligence by empathizing with human emotions. Have you ever come home from a long day and your fur-baby just seemed to know you needed a little extra love? Have you ever been feeling down, and your fur-baby will not leave your side? That is because they can sense when their owners are sad, anxious, or happy, often providing comfort and companionship in times of need. Some dogs are even thought to be able to sense illness within their human. This is because a dog will know a person’s individual smell and when an illness changes that smell they can detect it. This emotional bond strengthens the relationship between dogs and their human counterparts, deepening their role not just as pets but as valued members of the family.

The intelligence and behavior of dogs are a testament to their remarkable adaptability, social cognition, and emotional sensitivity. Their ability to learn, problem-solve, and form deep connections with humans enriches our lives in countless ways. Understanding and appreciating these traits enhances our relationship with dogs and reinforces their status as loyal companions and cherished friends. Whether as working animals, therapy dogs, or simply as beloved pets, dogs continue to captivate us with their intelligence and endearing behaviors, making them truly deserving of their title as man’s best friend.

Are you stuck doing the same exercises? Is your workout ready for a change or two?

By Lisa

There are multiple parts of each muscle and different movements that target each part. Without getting caught up in the ‘kinesiology’ weeds, you have your primary, secondary, and stabilizer muscles. By incorporating different movements and/or tools, you can challenge the same muscle differently. There are a variety of  exercises and tools to strengthen each muscle, ward off boredom/plateaus, add a challenge and aid in the consistency of exercising.
